For many years, Sidi al-Jamal has been an honored teacher at the sacred sanctuary of al-Aqsa in Jerusalem, where he also presides over a Zawiyya, or center for spiritual studies. Dr. Jaffe first traveled to Jerusalem at age 35, where Sidi al-Jamal helped Dr. Jaffe to heal from heart disease.Dr. Jaffe returned to Jerusalem again in 1997, where he attended Sidi’s Zawiyya and learned many secrets of Sufi spirituality and healing. At the end of his period of study, Sidi made Dr. Jaffe a Muqaddum, or spiritual representative for Sidi in the United States. Sidi asked Dr. Jaffe to return to the United States to open a Sufi center offering healing and spiritual teachings to people in the West.Since 1997, Dr. Jaffe has founded the Shadhiliyya Sufi Center, the University of Spiritual Healing and Sufism and Dr. Jaffe MD seminars. Over three thousand people have entered Sufism through his teachings.In 2010, Dr. Jaffe became Murshid Murrabai Ruhi (Spiritual Teacher), one of four Murshids within the Shadhiliyya Sufi order.
