Hayashi – Lecture at the Magic Circle How he describes himself “I’ve been quite active in the European magic scene since 2003. I’m primarily a close-up performer, and am currently working on expanding my repertoire to include more stage material. I’ve had the honour of winning the MacMillan International Magic Competition, the S.A.M. European Championships in Close-Up, and the I.B.M. Cup Germany in Stage Magic as well as the German, French, Austrian, Swiss, and Italian National Championships, all in the category Card Magic. I also placed in the top 5 in Parlor Stage and the top 10 in Close-Up at the 2006 FISM World ChampionshipsMagic is my occassional part-time business. About half of my work as a magical entertainer is as a lecturer and gala show performer at magic conventions. I have performed at the Magic Circle in London, the Magic Castle in Hollywood, the Wizard’s Inn in Tokyo, and 4F in upstate New York. In real life, I am a lecturer for the English Department at the University of Mannheim and a business language consultant for various corporations.” How I describe him “Hayashi is one of the most entertaining magicians I have ever had the privilege of watching. On his recent lecture tour he started with a fantastic comedy routine where you are lead to believe he cannot speak a word of english, and he has subtitles and a translation machine. He then reveals a blatant Canadian accent and perfect grasp of english, which really lightens the mood. His first effect was possibly the best 3 phase coin matrix routine I have ever seen, as well as explaining a couple of coin vanishes that he has developed, including a fantastic ‘dragon vanish’. He then moved on to his card routine, including an ingenious adaption of the 21 card trick, and his favourite ‘fastest card trick in the world’ where he locates a spectators named chosen card from a shuffled deck in an instant.”
