Static by David Jade & Damien VappereauIntroduction:Originally, I was interested in this effect, but not interested enough. Luckily, RebelAce69 let me in on the fact there was a scavenger hunt contest over at D&D’s site. We usually work together on these things. Since I was late to the game, I decided to help him out. Well because I’m full of awesome I managed to find the 5th clue after about 15 minutes of looking while it took everyone else the entire day. (I felt so awesome.) Well I decided to find all the other clues as well and was the first one to find the last clue. So what did this do? I won Static. RebelAce69, while you were your own downfall for telling me of this contest, I am grateful for you letting me know about this contest. If you did not, I would never had bought this because of the alternate methods I have for accomplishing the same effect.Production:Typical for D&D’s DVD’s. It was shot with a $20 web cam, the video was all grainy, you could barely understand Dan’s (or Dave’s (forgot who taught the effect)) voice because the quality was just so bad. Typical. Moving on.The Gimmick:Invisible. Don’t worry about it. Ignore what everyone else says. Your spectators won’t find this gimmick. Magicians? Maybe. (Who gives a crap?) Laymen? No. They will not find this gimmick. It is invisible to them. Also, the gimmick will not break. Each gimmick you make will last you quite a while. If the gimmick breaks, you have extra material needed to make more gimmicks which won’t take you too long once you get the hang of making the gimmick. D&D and T11 both sell refills for the required material, but you’ll probably find it elsewhere at a cheaper price. Where you buy the material is up to you.The Effect:The effect is awesome and I’m too lazy to describe it in detail. I’m sure you’ve seen the preview anyway (or Zachmonky’s Badass Little Trick video). So what makes this Haunted Pack different than the others? Well… you push down on the cards and then their selection actually pops out of the pack. For me, that’s what made this Haunted Pack awesome. The SPECTATOR can push the cards down and their card magically pops out of the pack. You can then hand everything to them to examine. Very cool. There is also another thing that D&D did not bring up on the DVD and no one else seems to have brought it up either. The spectators feel the magic happen here. On the DVD, D&D say that they take their spectator’s hand and slowly lift it off the pack to make the pack cut itself. I’d rather not do this. You can say to your spectator to slowly lower the amount of force they are exerting on the deck, but never take their hands off. They will then feel an invisible force cutting the deck. They then press on the cards and their card pops out. Now that is full of awesome.
